Engineering Intern / Co-Op Internship

Hours: Full-Time (40 hours per week)

Position Overview

The Engineering Intern / Co-Op will support the Engineering Department with a strong focus on data analytics, system analysis, and engineering support projects. This internship is designed for an engineering student who can work with data, run queries in multiple software systems, and support engineering projects related to service connections, line extensions, and major jobs.

This role offers hands-on experience in a utility environment and is ideal for students seeking practical application of engineering and analytical coursework.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Engineering Department in day-to-day activities related to service connections and line extensions
  • Perform data analysis and engineering analytics to identify trends, patterns, anomalies, and opportunities for improvement in support of engineering and operational initiatives
  • Assist with complex analytical projects, including trend analysis, performance metrics, and system evaluations
  • Support reporting, visualization, and documentation of analytical findings
  • Work with engineering staff to analyze operational data related to electric utility systems
  • Assist with special engineering projects as assigned
  • Maintain accurate records and communicate findings clearly to engineering leadership
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Engineering.

Required Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, or related engineering discipline required)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency with Excel and data analysis tools; experience with engineering or analytics software preferred
  • Strong analytical/problem-solving skills with the ability to work with large data sets
  • Ability to communicate findings clearly
  • Strong organization skills and attention to detail for documentation and tracking
  • Ability to work independently and meet project deadlines

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous electric utility experience or exposure to utility systems
  • Experience with data analytics, system modeling, or engineering analysis projects
  • Coursework or experience related to power systems, analytics, or operations

Compensation

  • $18.00 per hour

Work Schedule & Duration

  • 40 hours per week
  • Internship length of 8 weeks, depending on start date and student availability
  • Schedule coordinated with engineering leadership and student academic commitments
