POSITION: WAREHOUSE CLERK / MATERIAL HANDLER
REPORTS TO: PURCHASING AGENT AND DIRECTOR OF ELECTRIC OPERATIONS JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Warehouse Clerk / Material Handler receives, stores, and issues materials, equipment and tools in a warehouse setting and
assists personnel by the proper receipt, storage, and dispersal of material and supplies required for construction and maintenance of the electric and/or broadband systems.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Receives, assembles, issues, stocks, and retires incoming and outgoing materials and supplies for crews and contractors according to proper procedures.
- Makes necessary inspections to determine condition in accordance with packing lists, purchase orders and invoices.
- Loads and unloads trucks.
- Classifies, sorts and stores incoming shipments and exiting stocks for accountability.
- Maintain facilities, including bins, bays, pole yard, transformer space, and rooms, in neat, orderly and safe condition.
- Assist with annual inventory and other inventory as required or requested; reporting any discrepancies to Purchasing Agent and appropriate departments.
- Prepares required reports accurately and in a timely manner and reconciles any discrepancies.
- Aids in the return of damaged or defective items.
- Operates the forklift, motorized warehouse equipment and other equipment in a safe manner in compliance with company standards and manufacturer’s instructions to ensure materials are stored in proper locations.
- Assists with custodial and maintenance duties, as requested or required, such as light construction and electrical work.
- Performs all other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Knowledge of inventory control is preferred.
SKILLS:
- Knowledge of computer applications, software, email, and Microsoft Office, i.e.: excel.
- Ability to understand and receive direction from supervisor and others.
- Adept to work independently to expedite work to meet time schedule and demands.
- Capable of handling and prioritizing simultaneous assignments in coordination with Supervisor.
- Possess problem-solving skills to deal with the demands of the position and a variety of variables.
- Ability to interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, and schedule form.
- Possess internal and external communication skills, verbally and in writing, to assist employees and vendors in a professional and effective manner.
- Possess initiative and high attention to detail including excellent organizational skills.
- Capable of working well in a team oriented and collaborative environment.
- Maintain high level of integrity and honesty.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Visual acuity and manual dexterity to enter data is required.
- Some lifting required. Objects weighing approximately 60 pounds lifted frequently and heavier objects occasionally with some team lifting up to 200 pounds.
- Regularly required to stand, sit, walk, and use hands to hold objects, tools, and controls.
- Frequent reaching with hands and arms, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, pushing, pulling, crouching and crawling.
- Frequently sits, stands, walks, bends, stoops, and squats.
WORK CONDITIONS:
- Occasional exposure to inclement weather may occur.
- Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.
- Frequently exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and vibration.
- Moderate to loud noise level in work environment.
HOURS:
- Normal working hours Monday through Friday between 7:30 am and 4:30 pm, but may vary for this position.
- May be required to work long and unpredictable hours, including work after normal hours in the event of an outage or other needs such as, but not limited to, order fulfillment.
RATE OF PAY:
- Hourly position, commensurate with experience.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
- Must possess a driver’s license.
- Must be insurable by HEC’s insurance carrier.
- Applicant must pass drug screen and physical.
